A little history.
During our time as missionaries on Curaçao I worked, among other things, as a chaplain in the Bon Futuro prison.
During that time I got to know Pedro Hooi, then an inmate. He gave his life to the Lord, was baptised during a baptism service in the prison and was filled with the Holy Spirit. He soon grew into a spiritual leader. He also formed a band with which we evangelised inside the prison, and he became the worship leader. The band also recorded a CD, “Pordon Kòrsou" (Forgive us, Curaçao), which spent weeks at number 1.

The Hooi family
In the prison he often interpreted for me during sermons and Bible studies. He regularly called from the prison to pray for our family, and a friendship grew. When he was released I continued to walk alongside him, including during his rehabilitation. About six years ago he left Curaçao for Santo Domingo for work, and he now leads a church there. In 2014 we got back in touch and he asked whether I could come to lead campaigns and train the church leaders. That trip was a great success in which we saw God move powerfully. There were remarkable healings and deliverances, and many people came to faith.
We were also able to start a children's church. Hooi's wife longed to start one. She was counting on 20 to 25 children. I asked her: ”What do you have faith for?” She answered: “For 50 children.” I replied that God does more than we can ask or imagine. I asked her why they had not started the children's church yet. It was because they had nothing. Thankfully, generous donations had come in and I could donate all the basic supplies, such as paper, scissors, a printer, drinks, some treats and materials to make benches, so they could get started. In the end, 82 children came to the very first meeting.
