To the prison in La Romana
On Friday we had to get up very early and went to the prison in La Romana. We arrived and had to wait, because the woman who was supposed to have filled in our details had not done so and was not there that day. We sat in the waiting room, and the prison's pastor (he is an inmate himself) came to us. Now and then someone came who needed our passports or papers. After waiting for 3 hours she came to us and said we had better come back at 2 o'clock, because nothing was ready. We had already had a service in La Romana once, so Pedro called the pastor to see whether he had time. We ate with him. A poor man on crutches then came up to us and asked for food. We gave him food and were able to pray with him.
After this we could finally go back to the prison. When we arrived, we were immediately taken along by the director. We had very good conversations and many doors opened. We were able to pray with him. And then we were given a full tour of the whole prison, which is normally not possible. When we arrived, the meeting was outside on a very large square, so that a large part of the prison could listen in. Laurine shared a testimony. Sharon sang a song. Then Donné spoke about writing down your dreams in spite of your circumstances, and Marien added to that afterwards. It was a really special day.
